The Nightmare(q5-5)

Q: How do the events following Anne’s nightmare reveal tensions between Anne and two other members of the household?

After Anne screamed of fright from her nightmare, Mr. Dussel woke up with fury and accused her of being too loud. He complained that Anne was going to get them caught someday and she had to be controlled. This reveals Anne and Mr. Dussel's relationship as negative. Mrs. Frank darts into Anne's room after hearing her daughter scream. She cuddles Anne with motherly love and concern and asks Anne if she could sit next to her bed and watch her till she falls into sleep. As soon as Anne refuses, Mrs. Frank get accused. Mrs. Frank also tries to give Anne a kiss before leaving Anne's room, but Anne also refuses. Mrs. Frank weeps outside of Anne's room after. This shows Anne and her mother's relationship unsteadiness.

Great blog that you have written! I answered the same question and I agree with what you wrote for this question! I agree that Anne had built tensions with both Mr. Dussel and Mrs. Frank after she woke up from her nightmare too. Mr. Dussel was very negative to Anne about her nightmares, because he was worried of them getting caught by the Nazis. Like you have said, I think that their relationship was negative too, and I think one reason was because of her nightmares as well. Also, she creates tension with her mom, but I think that it wasn't necessary for Anne to response in a such negative way. I think Anne was getting stressed through her nightmares, and since she was a teenager, she must have had a hard time dealing with relationships. I think you did a good job on explaining this question! Nice job!
