Q: What do you think would be the hardest part of life in the Secret Annex: the fear of discovery, the need to keep silent for hours at a time, the sharing of cramped quarters with strangers, or some other aspect? Explain.
I think that the need to keep silent for many hours should have been the hardest part of living in the Annex. Without a chance to move around, use the bathroom, cook, or even speak, the hors must have felt awfully long tedious. Usually, time goes so slow while we are waiting for something without doing anything. Imagine feeling that everyday....The long hours of silence must have created a horribly boring and painful time. If someone accidently causes a noise, this might also lead to the fear of discovery and must have made conflicts with other housemates. Silence can also cause a mental disorder if not careful. Many of the people should have felt isolation and become depressed.
Anne, especially, must have had a terrible time during those silent hours.
