Q: Why does Mr. Frank break down when he sees the glove ?
In the beginning of the play, there is a scene where Mr. Frank enters the Annex after the war and discover the belongings of his family and breaks ou t with sorrow. In the scene, Mr. Frank finds a glove on the floor and bursts out crying. I think that it was a definite thing for him to do. Looking at the glove must have brought many memories of the 2 years in hiding. (pg. 371: "It has too many memories for me. Everywhere, there's something....") The glove must have been a belonging of a family member that meant much to him. The thought of the family member in the death camps, in distant memories, etc... And the fact that Mr. Frank wasn't able to meet the person again must have been sorrowful. The glove might of reminded that he was alone and had to love without his family. So, the glove shows the remembrance, pain, and love of Mr. Frank towards it's owner.
